Daniel Keith Hutchens Arrested in Child Abduction; 4-Year-Old Found Safe After Amber Alert Near Salinas
Authorities in Central California have confirmed the safe recovery of a 4-year-old boy following a tense child abduction case that prompted a multi-county Amber Alert on Monday evening.
The alert, issued by the California Highway Patrol on behalf of the Monterey Police Department, was later canceled after the child, identified as Corbin Hutchens, and his father were located.
According to police, the incident began around 7:08 p.m. at the El Castell Motel, where officers responded to reports of a kidnapping in progress. Investigators say the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Daniel Keith Hutchens, allegedly threatened a witness with a firearm and struck another individual with a vehicle before fleeing the scene with the child.

Corbin Hutchens, described as a 4-year-old boy with brown hair and brown eyes, was the subject of the Amber Alert, which extended across multiple counties including Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, San Luis Obispo, and Fresno. ;;;;
Law enforcement agencies quickly launched a coordinated search effort. The suspect’s vehicle was later located after crashing in Castroville, but both the suspect and child initially fled on foot. Authorities believed they may have been in the nearby areas of Moss Landing and Castroville, with the last reported sighting near Axtell Street and Benson around 7:30 p.m.
Officials warned that Hutchens should be considered armed and dangerous, noting that he had firearms registered in his name.
After an extensive search, authorities confirmed that both the child and suspect were located, and Hutchens was taken into custody without further incident. Corbin was found safe.
Police have not yet released additional details regarding the child’s condition or the exact circumstances of the arrest. The case remains under active investigation.
The swift resolution of the incident has brought relief to the community, as authorities continue to gather information and determine the full sequence of events.
